Adding Participants
There are two ways people get onto your board: you add them yourself, or they claim their own boxes from a link you share. You can use either, or both.
Option 1 — You add participants yourself. You build the board by hand, choosing exactly which boxes go to whom:
- Tap the boxes you want to give someone, right on the 10×10 board. Each tap selects or deselects a box, and a live counter shows how many you've picked and the points that represents.
- In the Points Tracker, type that person's name and tap ADD. The exact boxes you selected are assigned to them. (ADD stays greyed out until you've selected at least one box and entered a name.)
- To add yourself, tick "This is me" so your own boxes highlight for you.
- Repeat for each participant.
Boxes are never auto-assigned — you choose exactly which ones go to each person.
Option 2 — Participants claim their own boxes. If you turn on "Let participants claim their own boxes" when you create the pool, you can share your pool's invite — a link or a QR code — and people pick their own boxes:
- Share the invite from the pool's Invite screen — send the link in a text or group chat, or show the QR code for people to scan in person. Tapping the link or scanning the code opens BoxD straight to your pool.
- They tap the link. If they don't already have a BoxD account, they create one first — it's quick and easy.
- Once they're in, they tap the empty boxes they want, right on the board, up to the per-person limit you set.
- Each box gets a nickname. As someone claims, they give their boxes a short name — their initials, a first name, or a fun handle. That nickname is what shows on the board — never their account name — so the board stays personal while their identity stays private. (Two people can't take the same nickname in one pool.)
- Their boxes are claimed and tracked to them automatically — no work for you.
- You set how many boxes each participant can claim (the default is 3) — and anyone who wants more can request them, which you approve or deny with a tap.
No app required. The invite link opens BoxD in a web browser at app.boxdsports.com too — anyone can join and claim their boxes with nothing to install.
You can mix both: claim some boxes for people manually and let others grab their own from the link.
Sharing a box. Want more than one person on the same box — a couple, or a few friends going in together? Open any claimed box and add extra people as co-owners. Sharing is about access, not splitting:
- The box still shows one name on the board and counts as one entry — nothing is divided up.
- It now highlights as "theirs" for everyone linked to it, so each person can follow that box as their own — and each gets the box-won alert if it hits.
- Co-owners just need to already be in the pool (they join with the pool code like anyone else). Add or remove them anytime.
The Points Tracker. However boxes get claimed, the Points Tracker is your running scoreboard for the board — tracking only, so you can see at a glance where your pool stands:
- Each person's row shows their name, their boxes, the points their boxes represent, and a marker you can tap to keep track of who's squared away. (It's a tracker for your own records — nothing is collected through the app.)
- Private notes (owner only) — tap + Add private note on any participant to attach a note just for you: a full name, a phone number, anything that helps you remember who a public name belongs to. Only you ever see it — everyone else only sees the public name the participant chose.
- The top shows running totals: how many boxes are claimed, and where things stand point-wise.
- To remove someone, press and hold their row (you'll get a confirmation) — that frees their boxes back up.
